Cystoscopy is an essential examination for the
diagnosis of a wide spectrum of
urological and non
urological diseases, such as tumors, stones,
bladder inflammations, blood in the urine, and
interstitial cystitis.
Cystosope is termed the instrument that we use to do a
cystoscopy. It is connected to a Xenon light source and
a appliance that contain water in order to fill the
urinary bladder and have clear view. Inserting this
instrument in the urethra under local or mild general
anesthesia we can examine under direct vision the
urethra of men, the urethra of women, the prostate, and
the urinary bladder.

Cystoscopes
are separated into two categories, Rigid and Flexible.
Rigid
Cystoscopes
are used widely from urologists, but they have the
disadvantage that are relatively painful for the
patients. That is why is it is advisable to use some
kind of anesthesia in sensitive patients for example in
young men.
Flexible
cystoscopy
doesn't have the disadvantage of pain, and
therefore is a much more tolerable to patients. This
relatively painless cystoscopy comes to reality because
flexible cystoscopes
are made from a soft substance, and have small diameter.
For the
aforementioned reasons in our centre we mainly use
flexible cystoscopy.
