NEUROGENIC BLADDER

In the general term of "Neurogenic Bladder" we include any type of urinary bladder dysfunction  that is presented in persons with problems from the nervous system.

The neurogenic bladder can be presented with various forms, most frequent than which they are or the Detrusor Overactivity (that is to say the uncontrollable spasms  of urinary bladder that lead to incontinence of urine), or Detrusor-external sphincter dyssynergia (non relaxation of urethral sphincter during urination as is physiologic).

The diagnosis of type of neurogenic bladder and the extent of neurogenic damage can be done  with a detailed neurophysiologic study, with Urodynamics, or with Videourodynamics.

The treatment of neurogenic bladder is either conservative (Drugs, intermittent self catheterization) or surgical.

In the surgical interventions are included the INTERSTIM device insertion (Neuromodulation), Clostridium Botulinum toxin A (BOTOX, DYSPORT) injections in the wall of urinary bladder wall or urinary sphincter, and augmentation cystoplasty.
